STOP 11: Jenny Rose Sign

Right around the corner is a giant neon sign that was made famous by a Sheryl Crow album cover. Unfortunately the old restaurant has long since closed down, but its well worth stopping and taking some photos as it slowly decays into the desert.

STOP 12: Baker – Aliens and Thermometers… you know you are close to Vegas!

The small town of Baker is the last stop before you rejoin the major freeway and drive as fast as possible like everyone else to get to Vegas. But what a great last stop! A number of awesome wacky and strange Route 66 attractions await you and your camera. The most prominent feature is a 134-foot tall thermometer (the world’s tallest). Its visible for miles and commemorates the hottest temperature ever recorded on earth in nearby Death Valley of 134 Degrees Fahrenheit (57 Degrees Celsius). Spicy hot!

It is also home to the Mad Greek restaurant, and since my uncle back in Australia is Greek, I had to check it out. Surrounded by marble statues and open 24 hours a day, it is famous for their strawberry shakes!

The town has a number of great old decaying signs which look fantastic in photos. Well worth spending some time walking around and checking out the abandoned hotels and restaurants.
Finally, my favorite, Alien Jerky! Full of Aliens and jerky (naturally!) you can purchase an alien mask and a bag of dried beef before taking some more photos and hitting the road to the always culturally classy, Las Vegas!
