STOP 09: The Weird and Wonderful – Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch

I like strange roadside attractions. Things that only work in the middle of nowhere on the road. Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch is exactly that. A collection of steel poles with bottles stuck on the end sounds insane, but when you walk through them, you are suddenly transported into a forest of glittering glass. It looks amazing, and its fantastic to photograph. Its open from dawn to dusk everyday and is really worth the stop.

STOP 10 – Peggy Sue’s Diner

Peggy Sue’s Diner was built in 1954 and is a classic Route 66 style diner that is well worth stopping to check out, even if you are not hungry. Reopened in 1987, it houses the current owners amazing collection of movie and TV memorabilia.

The diner is HUGE, so no matter how busy, you should have no problem getting a seat, as it holds many different rooms, set up in many different styles. There is also a 5 & Dime store attached with great candy and old fashioned Ice-Cream, Malts and Floats available at the counter.

The really fun part for me was the dinosaur park out back, complete with giant metal dinosaurs and a small garden and pond to stretch your legs and get a few of those more wacky road trip photos in!
